FYI i also have a Evo80 (and Evo70)...so when its 16 knots i can use the E80....hence the 9'5 would perhaps be better for me than the minitanker to complement my existing boards?
Hi Northy
I'm thinking about changing my MT for the new 9"5 (TT version), but I didn't tried it yet so I can't tell you more than what you read in the previous posts: only a few people (most of them from Exocet Crew or dealers) had a chance to test the 9"5, because there's only one in Europe until now.
Translated in english, their conclusions are the following: both boards are quite radical for their size and you really feel you're on a 100L board. When you're surfing it's even hard to believe that you get those 20 extra liters that helped you a lot to go outside!
While surfing the wave, on a MT the feeling is closer from a "normal waveboard". But the 9"5 surfs a little bit more like a "real" longboard.
So the choice is more a matter of feeling, depending on your style, rather than a difference in performances wich are quite similar.
But I can also add something: I've had the oportunity to talk with Patrice Belbeoch of the differences beetween the two boards and, according to him, the 9"5 is slightly better in bigger waves than the MT, wich is a board really nice in small and medium size waves (up to 1.5/2 m) but may be too "loose" (shorter and wider) in big swell. The 9"5 seems to be more stable in the bottom turn in such conditions, it's also better in really light wind because of a better glide (longer shape): more glide means you get early take off, so more waves surfed!
And if you want to use occasionaly your board as a surfboard (without sail, I mean), I think you should also go for the 9"5.
But your choice may also depends of the size of your car (or garage): the MT is shorter and easily fit into a small car...
Anyway, I'm sure both boards would be a nice complement to your quiver!
Greetings
